I've had various small community fish living in my heavily planted tank the last couple of years. While it's 'pretty' I feel there's no character to any of the fish and I'm looking for something bigger.
I used to kep a couple of oscars and enjoyed them but I've moved on.
My water is ph6.4, so soft water lovers are a must. The tank has Duponit fertiliser with a sand substrate and undergravel heated cable; taking the depth to around 3".
How big can I go with a 6'x2'x2' tank?
I saw a red tail catfish in the lfs today and fell in love with it.
But you're all going to tell me I'll need a bigger tank, aren't you?
Any suggestions would be welcome so I can go and swot up before committing myself.
They can grow up to 2ft can't they? smile
And you wouldn't be able to have any smaller fish in with it ;)

At 2 ft. they would just be able to turn in my tank.
If they got any bigger.... :-\
I intend to offload my existing fish to the LFS.
I've been hunting down info. on the web and it seems that the ideal is a 8'x3'x3' tank!

Nevermind, plenty more fish in the tank :smile Tongue
Sorry I'll get me coat Grin
hehe ;)
Seriously though there are some lovely fish out there you could have in your tank smile
Silver dollars look great in a shoal smile
Maybe you could even go for discus with some cardinal tetras as you have acidic water smile

Silver dollars: been there and got the t'shirt smile. Lovely in a large shoal.
Anway, this thread was in catfish Capers and I don't want to bang on about other fish. Not fair on the rest of you lot ;D.
I'll put on my thinking head (if I can find it) and maybe with some recommendations I'll have some good sized fish to enjoy.

Hi Bipolguy and welcome to Fishcrazy! [wave]

The redtail can grow to over 3 feet so you'd need a tank at least 8 x 3 base area. Have you thought about arowana?

Garden shed full of tanks (tropicals) and a pond.

Without understanding, knowledge is worthless
