The side effect of having small person to raise is lack of free cash, but patience will be rewarded smile its not the lack of not knowing what I wanted!

GORDON BENNET!

I used what is called "builders' sand" here, it's fine grained and in places almost dust. It is easier to use damp and I ordered by 1 ton bags, I think it was £17 a ton + £6 for delivery + £4 for the bag which is a very handy carrier for grass cuttings and hedge clippings.
Perversely "plasterer's sand" is a coarse grain and I thought    sharp.
I need to have a read through this thread but if this pond is still the wooden framed one and you have vertical walls then look at sheet polystyrene for the protection on the verticals, B&Q used to sell 8ft x 4ft in various thicknesses, I used 1/2" for the big pond. Alternatively the lily pond has no protection on the walls and the liner is up against the flagstone walls, You just have to be careful. Sand for the floor though, 1" or so think.

Yeah Sean the pond is this 175 Gallon raised pond so do I need the polystyrene to keep in warmth and protect the liner from the wood?

Thanks for the sand info, will probably buy a load of bags from B & Q as its not a big area to cover (well it doesnt look big in my head lol)

I would use it for protection, the insulation is a bonus, is this a ready made pond?

don't know if you'll have space for those if it comes as a kit.

how about using expanding foam...that should have quite good insulation qualities

Havent insulated it at the mo, did think about the polystyrene idea but funds arent great at the mo so just wanted it built. Might empty later in the year to insulate before it gets proper cold.

I now have a cascade 1500 pump, water lily and 2 Irises in the pond thanks to my dad Grin

Also at the garden centre yesterday they had a pack of 4 oxygenators, being impulsive I bought the pack without knowing the plants. 1 of the plants is Myriophyllum Brasiliensis which looking online is a pest and chokes everything up so not putting that in!

Will get some pics once I have them all planted, forgot to buy some baskets! doh! Got 3 bunches of the standard elodea that garden centres sell to.

Here are some pics as promised, any tips or advice feel free to chip in!

Pic of overview of pond, close up of my plants (3 small pots need planting, forgot pond pots!), close up of lily and pic of the Myriophyllum. Should I put the Myriophyllum in my pond or not?
