Hi you can keep angels and discus together[Y].

Angels can actuly help the discus to be more 'adventerous'[Grin]

But if they decide to breed thats when you could have problems!

Latest update 29/4/10 well only got four fish now - 2 syds and 2 B/Ns. All fish are equal.

What do you mean "trouble"? Are they protective parents?

I heard that the Angels will 'stake out' a territory when they decide to breed?

i may be a little old fashioned, but i belive any set up for discus should only have discus in it, with peaceful smaller tank mates like cardinals and cories Smile

might be true, though i've not heard of it................i only say wot i say cos discus are such a majestic and demure fish that are easily stressed, and angels can be a little too boisterous for them [*-)]

Angels can be nasty beggers and very territorial even with their own kind. I saw some in an lfs once having  a right go at each other. I told the assistant manager I now know well in there and he said he'd had to seperate themSmile

I do like angels , but as they need big deep tanks not an option for us[Sad]

I'm with Edd in that discus belong in a species tank with some cardinals[Y]

Angels will have a pop at anything, but they dont swim very fast and in planted tanks the smaller fish (particulay tetras) will get away easily, im not sure they would bother a larger fish like discus though, when i had that severm for a week they didnt go near it, di

I wouldn't keep Angels and Discus together.

The angels are very aggresive and would bully the Discus. They are also likely to get to the food before the Discus so the discus end up being malnurished.

Somebody once told me about the parasite thing - I don;t think this is true though.`

You are also better off keeping both in larger groups to spread aggression - so big tanks are needed.

After saying all that I once saw a fantastic south american set up that had both in and they are found together in the wild................?

Mike os or Sye are the people to speak to!

its a myth.......stupid one at that.

people think discus are placid gentle creatures........well by and large they are but they can be very agressive if they choose to be.

discus and angels can go together but imo it looks wrong, the king of the aquarium desreves to be the feature fish.

no mugins,

your other stock are not suitable tankmates for discus.

i see you have rock in your tank, this is seldom used in discus tanks and depending on the rock can affect the water chemistry.

discus cannot just be chucked into any old community tank.............they are "the king" and need a little extra attentionTounge

"the king"= pain in the backside! Discus are really sensative, stressy fish, and if things aren't perfect in your tank, they tell you by either croaking on you, or getting VERY sickly..
