<p>well,looks like i'm going to make the leap from a pc to laptob,i havent got huge funds but want something half decent,any idea would be great as i'm a pc dunce,ive looked at the asus x59gl but cant figure out if its a notebook or lappy i deffo want a disk burner thingy</p>

i got my daughter a dell inspiron and she loves it,look out for a decent ram

I have an Inspiron laptop. Had it over a year now though so it's be overridden by other  models. But is a fine machineSmile

Apart from plenty of Ram get one with a good processor. Mine is Centrino.

Just looked quickly at the one you mention Gaz. It has some good specs for the money, but it apparently has a cheap chassis and the battery life is only 2 hours. The screen is only 15.4in.

If you are getting it to replace your desktop, personally I'd get one with a bigger screen if you can.

Mine wasn't to replace the desktop, but I still got one with a 17in wide screen. We've never had a screen less than that even with our first desktop way back when. Our current desktop is 19in. I just think you get more out of it with a bigger screen. Is your personal choice of course[Y]

looks good to me for the money. I'm lucky, i've got a works one - 8 hour battery life!
