snails...what type??

hi im looking for a snail or too for my sisters cold water tank (40L) what species should i get and if its not possible what about cold water algae eating fish?????

Ramshorns but they do multiply quite quickly. Malaysian trumpet snails (MTS) again they multiply.

Striped trapdoor snail but they can grow up to 2inches long.

Above all my favourite is the NERITE snail. Doesn't grow too big, doesn't breed in home aquariums and has a great appetite for  algae. So that's the one I would recommend![smitten][Y] We have two in our tank but would like to get some more.

 A couple in your sister's tank would be fine as they can be kept in temps from around 18c to 28c.

Be cxarful with nerites though as there are some species being important that like to leave the tank and go walkabouts over night...will be fine if the tank is covered though.

yay thanks ive never seen them in aus tho so il have to go looking

Our nerites often sit on the top of the Juwel backing out of the water but haven't gone any further . Hopefully they won;t !Smile

I usually put them back in the water but if they want to be there they soon are again[sn]
