<p>I've just bought my six Minnows and 2 Bronze Corys.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>As soon as we got back from the centre, I put the bag in my tank for ten minutes, then opened the top and added a little of my aqauarium's water.&nbsp; When I did this I noticed both of my Corys were in the corners of the bag.&nbsp; Now one of them is on it's side - it's mouth is still moving, but is it ok?</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Please reply quick!</p>

Don't panic yet. A poly bag isn't a very natural place for a fish to be and they very often end up in the corners in any orientation they will fit!

Try giving it a nudge, chances are it will move and you'll see it's OK.

A good LFS will usually sellotape the corners of the bag to round it off so there's no nooks for fish to get stck in.....

I have had this kind of problems and as Ferox has said some fish get realy stressed in a bag and will try and hide in the corners - if so i just release them a little quicker?

Also i know with corys they can release something into the water from there gills causing them serious stress and even death, if this apears to be the case there should/could be a milky like appearence around the gill covers on the cory - if so remove from the bag A.S.A.P{without any water going with the fish} and good luck[Grin]

Latest update 29/4/10 well only got four fish now - 2 syds and 2 B/Ns. All fish are equal.

Thanks for your help and reassurance.

The cory is ok now, but I'm afraid at least one of my Minnows has died.  I can't be certain if there's more than one, because I'm keeping the light off until tomorrow morning, but there's definitely one dead.  [Sad]

I'm relieved to hear the cory  is OK, can we presume they're both fine?

Sorry to hear about the minnow, did it die still in the bag or after it went in the tank? Was it showing signs of distress at all and did the others look ok? Occasionally a fish which might be weak to begin with may succumb to the stress of being moved, hopefully the rest will be fine once they've had a chance to settle in. Let us know how you get on.

Yes, both the Corys are fine now, and very impatient to be fed this morning!

The minnow died about 2 hours after being put into the tank itself.  I didn't notice any real signs of distress, and the other minnows were fine.  It was very small though, so like you say I think it was weak to begin with and the stress of moving was too much for it.  Thing is, I can't find it anywhere now - could one or both of the Corys have eaten it?  Don't they eat dead fish?

It is a very late reply but if the bags are tied tightly you should transport them upside down.This way there are no corners to get stuck in.When transporting fish I always tape the corners with parcel tape to prevent this from happening.
