I have finally sold my soul to Bill Gates and got an XBox but not a 360 as you might think. Its an original and cost me a whole £20 from Game! But I have plans to make it a media center PC :D

XBMC is good I've modded mine about a year ago, also did a new 80gig hdd at the same time, well worth it, and films look good as well.
Well worth unix see's networks and streaming is dead easy

you got dvd players, hd recorders, satelite channels, computers and gawd knows wot else, so why would i want to have a stand alone mdia player

Easy answer, so I can access all my media on one device that is hooked up to my entertainment system. MP3s on my PC streamed through my sound system rather than PC speakers, divx movies on my PC watchable on my TV. Photo albums watchable on TV.
Microsoft have realised this is the future and it wont be many years until we have a server each in our home networks to do this job. I am just ahead of that game :)

I'm now getting requests from friends to mod their's, but i did not do mine in the first place so guess i better read up and lurn
Splinter Cell only arrived today so not done it yet but have used a USB memory stick to get all the files needed onto the xbox hard disk so am good to go now.
I had one a while back with the executer 3 chip i also fitted a wireless network card inside it as well was pretty good but sold it to fund my 360
All installed and working now, once I had the game to exploit the software I followed a couple of guides and its good to go. On my network and accessing all my music and other digital files.
You gonna upgrade the HDD?
More techy stuff as the HDD is locked and you need to extract the EEPROM and then copy it all over to the new HDD I've only added an 80gig but maks life a little eaiser.
nah not going to bother, all my media is on my PC already, dont see the point of moving it onto the xbox just for the sake of it.
