It most certainly is not ok to keep them in a bowl, any fish produces ammonia which it release through its gills, this is poisenous to fish esp as they need to breathe the water and extract the oxygen and so they intake poisen which gradually damages their internal organs, to remove this and other substances you need a filter (which i think you meant by a pump). You should allow 8 gallons of water per goldfish to allow for them to grow to their ultimate size, in fact single tail goldfish really need a pond as they are very messy fish to keep in a tank. Couple of fantails would be fine, though they need a filter to remove the ammonia as i said that applies to anything really, even ponds should have filters. di

Always remember that you are unique; just like everyone else.

    Completely agree DiSmile

    Welcome Macaronitiphat

You are best to get the biggest tank you can afford and accommodateYes

If you haven't got the room for a big enough tank for goldfish, other coldwater fish you could have that stay small are minnows. There are a few others that are classed as tropical fish but some people keep them in cooler setups.

Personally I prefer tropical fish and think they are easier to look afterSmile

Whatever you chose, all fish need a filter in the tank. And that filter has to be matured by cycling the tank before adding any fishSmile

Think about what you can accommodate tank wise and we'll advise you with what you will need etcBig Smile

There are other varieties of goldfish as well besides the bog standard fairground prize of the 1980s.
