Pond goldfish problem

One of my pond goldfish has been swimming a little oddly. It was as if it was stiff near its tail section and had a waddling sort of swimming action.

Yesterday i managed to examine it in a bowl of pondwater and discovered two areas which were red and maybe infected. A few of the scales near the end were slightly standing out, a bit dropsy like too. The fish is about 4-5 inches in length.

Can anyone advise me what i can do to help the fish please?

if you're comfortable handling him, clean the wounds with either a strong salt solution or potassium permangonate, and then seal them with a waterproof dressing, such as orabase.  

if you can get it inside in in some pond water in a filtered tank and heat up slowly to 18 -20c  this will help the woulds heal and yes clean the woulds

the raised scales is probably due to swelling of the sore area  looking at the sore they look more like pressure sores  probably where the fish has be laying on the bottom of the pond  and they have got infected this could lead to dropsy as dropsy is a secondary infection

this was my comet two years back he spent some time sat on the bottom of the pond i did what i have told you and 3 weeks later he was back in the pond

Thanks for the advice a few months ago but I thought I would update things now

The fish has been in a tank indoors since I asked for advice and has become a bit of a pet really, reacting  to my presence and looking for food. The redness underneath is not as bad now but it still has a stiffness and a slight bending in the middle of its body, almost as if it were swollen on one side. It has no scales protruding so no signs of dropsy as far as I am aware. It still spends a lot of time on the bottom of the tank.

The strange thing I have always noticed is that there tends to be a slimey sort of material on the surface of the water. I can sieve it off with a small container and its creamy in appearance.  Only tend to notice it when the filter is off but I assume its from the fish as its not appeared with any other fish I have kept.  I was wondering if I should use something like Stress Coat when I do a water change to see if this would help.

 Hi the slime on the surface is caused by the goldfish waste,usually from feeding oil rich foods?

so what do you feed him/her on?

Also remember warmer water holds less oxygen,so efficent filteration and airation is vital!

Also the filter should be on 24/7 {you said the oily slime appeared when the filter is off?}

Usually feed on Tetra pondsticks or Aquarium Goldfish flakes. It gets the odd treat, mainly a few small bits of prawn but thats about it.

The filter is sometimes off for a few mins if I feed it a few flakes. Thats how I have noticed that it seems like a creamy  oil slick when its turned off.

The fish is becoming increasingly bent, slowly but surely, curving on one side. This has happened with some smaller goldfish before and usually proves fatal but not sure what causes it or what the cure is for it. its maybe just a sickly fish anyway but has become a family pet and will be a shame if it goes the way of the little ones

Curvature of the spine is sometimes seen in fish with internal worms. I only ever had indoor fancy goldfish, and only one ever had worms. The red sores may well be ulcers. Both are treatable, in my experience, with shop bought remedies although, as I say, I haven't had any experience with outdoor fish.
