The heteranthera has in the past filled half the tank and I given loads away, but it just doesn't seem to want to grow these days

After all the problems you've had you still come here with a beautiful looking planted tank like that. Even after all the probs you've had, you still have a fantastically gorgeous planted aqaurium.
I'd hate to see what happens when you have a really bad day!
