Answer to your Q is YES T5 are far more superior to T8's
I have previously used T6's in T8 ballasts but didnt know there was a T8-T5 converter
sorry Richy, did a bit of digging and found that the converter does not work with all ballasts, will update if i find out morehere's some info on it anyway:http://www.saveiteasy.co.uk/energy-efficient-lighting.htm
look interesting but not sure if they'll be waterproof/splashproof. Would be handy to know the spectrum of the tubes aswell.
yes, need to find out more before diving in
Hi, everyone. I'm Christina and glad to know you here. For the T8 to T5 adapter(converter) you talk about, I know something about it because we produce such product. It's indeed a perfect replacer to the old T8(10,12) light fixture for both energy saving and installation cost saving. It only takes minuts to finish the install work. Very easy.
But is it safe to use in a Fish Tank where it will be exposed to condensation?

Waste of time then unless you can find a retailer selling them. Although I am not convinced they would be safe for aquatic lighting.
