Long time no post!
I`ve bought a 2nd hand Juwel 240 & had the idea of putting a mirror on the back of it to be able to see all those nooks and crannies the fish hide in that are always at the back of the tank :D We`ve taken the background away from our current tank and can see the fish far better than with a background.
Has anyone else done this with their tank?

I have never used mirrors as a backing but I have heard of it being done before

Hi, I'd say do a trial run first because it may stress certain fish. It will also give you an idea as to what reflections etc may be present
I would say depends on what fish you have, a schooling type fish, tetras, danios would like it, giving them the idea there are more of them than their are, but territorial fish like cichlids, or esp a male betta, would do their nut. di

No bettas now, our last one popped its clogs a while ago :(
We`ve got 2 angels that like having a go at each other so maybe they`d join forces against the "invaders" :D
We`ve got 2 tanks at the moment, one skew whiff in the living room (decorating :D ) and the Juwel empty in the garage! The 3 footer will be going once the Juwel is up & running. I was lucky enough to get an external filter thats man enough for the 240 tank, a Sera 900, so it`ll be a straight swap without any cycling all the water, plants, gravel & sand. I might even pop a fish in it too! ;)
I`m on the look out to for well designed tanks as I don`t want this one to just be a single layer & have loads of nooks & crannys for the catfish to hide in but for us to still see them as much as possible.
Any ideas of what lights to put in as now I`ve got 2, can I mix & match?

The ideal lights are a plant one and a daylight one especially if you have real plants
Angels like the cover of real plants. Watch them with reflection as they can be very territorial and aggressive.
Is it a Vision 240 (bowed front) or Rio 240 you have?

Ah but the males can be just as bad if not much worse LOL
The tank I bought a few years ago is a corner tank and came with mirrored glass as standard.
I have several types of tetras, as well as cardinals, gourami and a plec and can't say that I've ever noticed any of them trying to attack their reflections.
Even after all this time, I'm still in two minds as to whether I like it or not. It certainly makes the tank look busier. Of course the advantage of what you've done, as opposed to having mirrored glass, is that, if you or the fish don't like it, you can easily remove it.
