fishkeeping, what I tell people is

"you're keeping water, not fish. Water quality is the key to fishkeeping"  Wink

To the next point, filtration.

I notice you have the Juwel filter on, they're great for planted tanks but you may find over time that you need more if you're going to have a tank full of malawi's so plan ahead and maybe think about replacing it with an extrernal cannistor filter Smile

if it were me i'd take the juwel out and have a large external on it Smile Do it in stages though, ie remove some media and stick it in the external nad after removing it all rip the juwel filter out for more space Smile

 Looking great mate.

I do agree with Richy about it being sparse, but as you said once you add more fish it'll look even more lively.  But in sparse I also mean in terms of rockwork.  I personally think you'll need to stack up a little more as the fish will need a lot of hidey holes to share around to when fish start breeding or there's little disputes going on, for a breather.

As mentioned already you could run an external and internal alongside each other, but I personally would take it out as that could well be another 1 or 2 territories for your fish potentially.  Also maintenance on externals is far easier too.  I'd think about even running 2 externals that give a good turnover of your volume, not sure of the size of your tank.

Tbh, the more filtration the better with these fish, they are very messy and need a lot of water changes.

Personally I like more room for the fish in the tank, and every little bit helps.  I also hate jumping in a tank for maintenance work to clean filters.

yep, as well as the three filters i change out 60-70% of the water weekly (on a 300l tank!)
