Hi, I got an Eheim2229 wet/dry 2nd hand about 6 months ago but haven't used it yet, was a £50inc del bargin Cool

It came with all 3 baskets full of efimech(sp) but i'm wondering how good it really is as I've never used it before?

Debating whether to clean some of it in hot water or just go and get some noodles instead. I'll probably get sponges etc for the top 2 baskets.

Since it's just been sitting in the baskets i'm also wondering if it's anygood now anyway?

I'm going to run it with just water in as a test to see how much water is removed from the cannistor.

I'd also like your thoughts on the actual filter in general too Smile

 Hi that was quite a bargain Richybanana

I have never used one myself and have 'mixed' reports on just how good the wet and dry system really is?

I would replace the ehfimech with ehfisubstrate?but only my opinionTongue Tied

Why run it with just water only? if you want to know how much it holds = just fill tank to normal levels fit the filter and measure how much water you replace in the tank?{with a jug?}

Be very interesting to see how you get on with itGeeked

 nightmare filters, good once running but getting them set up is a pain in the harris apparently.

ehfimech is eheims mechanical media iirc but would still pass for bio media although a sponge or 2 would also be required.

stupid is as stupid does

just checked online and it's actually the efi substrate i have, not efimech.

It's going to be a 2nd filter on a tank for now then move the other to a different tank once it's established enough.

I don't want to know what it holds Stingy, As it's a wet/dry I want to know how low the water goes in the cannistor. The water lowers to let air get to the bacteria. If the tank is full and cannistor too the extra water has to go somewhere and that will be into the tank and overflow on the floor lol

do you think the efi substrate will still be ok to use if i clean it? As said I'm going to get sponges etc aswell Smile

I'd rather do a trial run in a tub as opposed to a mature setup incase of problems.

 It will be fine to use once you've given it a good wash mate - i'd get some noodles/sponges to go in there as well though.
