    Simple Lighting

     HI all

For those of you with splendid memories, you may recall I have two similar Tetra 60L tanks with a mix of stock including:

    Lounge
1 High Fin Platy - (Female)
3 White Sailfin Mollys (1 Male, 2 Female)
    6 Red Eye Tetras
    2 Tuxedos (2 Female)
3 Corydoras - Albino, Pep, Bronze
    2 Ottocinculus
    11 Neons

    Kitchen
2  Corydoras - Pep and Bronze
    10 Neons
    6 Scissortails
3  Swordtails (1 Male pineapple /2 Female other)
    4 Mollies (Male & 3 Female)
    1 Golden Algae Eater

I am aware that they may appear a little overstocked but they are healthy, my readings are good and I do a 30% water change weekly. There is also  a  medium number of plants.

My question is this - both tanks bought new are fitted with a T8 15W White lighting tube. I am happy with the effect. One tube is now faulty. B&Q do the very same spec - any reason why I shouldnt get my new tube there? I dont mind paying extra when needed but the difference in price appears to be £8 versus £4 in favour of B&Q!

    Discuss !

you will find the spectrum of light differs.

the b and q bulb will not have the correct spectrum of light for the plants.

    Re: Simple Lighting

I would generally say stick to aquarium tubes for fish and plants but if it's fish only then it might be ok as it's just visual. If you have live plants then go for proper aquarium tubes.

TANK 1. 1 BGK, Pair Gold Panchax, 1 Sailfin plec. Mopani wood + Fake silk plants. Substrate, sand + gravel. Ext filt.

WEBCAM  TANK 2. 15 Copper Harlequins (Hengeli), 3 albino bristlenose (2 m + 1 f), 1 Lda031, 1 Male CT Betta, 2 Adolphi Cory's, 5 chain loach, 3 Albino Cory(1 highfin), 4 Axelrodi Cory, 15 pygmy cory's, 2 Hoplo Littorale, 12 Popondetta Furcata, 3 Bamboo Shrimp, 6 Amano shrimp & 1 misc long armed shrimp (possibly Indian). the b&q tube will make the tank look very yellow, even if you go for a very "white" light. :)

Thank You all for your interest

I hve to admit that after posting the Q I decided I was a cheapskate and should  do the right thing ( !!) and go and see my LFS this morning.

Two reasons, I dont like B&Q and I do like my LFS so only right he gets my biz.

Third reason is also as you all highlight.

    Best Wishes and Thankx all.
