My pearl gourami has become a picky eater in the last few weeks. He looks really healthy. He stopped eating flake food some time ago, now he won't eat the frozen spirulina brine shrimp. Only frozen blood worms. Any feedback on fish becoming picky about what they'll eat?
Some fish do this, and I have found pearls to be a bit funny when it comes to feeding. At least he is feeding something! Have you tried any live foods? May get him eating brine shrimp again if you tempt him with live...
Fishity fishity fish fish! ;D
Hmmmm... Thanks Glub. Might have to try your suggestion as he's now stopped eating the frozen blood worms! Still appears perfectly healthy.
I am having a bit of a snail problem in my tanks which is remaining under control in the tank with the pearl. Is there a chance he's eating the young snails? I quite often catch him pecking at the plants in the tank as though he's feeding on algae...
Gourami's will eat small snails occasionally

I think they are quite keen on algae too...however, if they stop feeding on attractive foods like bloodworm then it could cause quick weight loss. I would try live foods, if the pearl still does not feed then it may be due to something more sinister then picky feeding.
