Rekord 70
I think they should be fine, ive now 3 bolivian rams, just got another pair yesterday from george milner (anyone know him) anyway i had a pair for ages (years) and then the male died so ive got another pair to hopefully make a trio with the lone female, and basically she isnt impressed so far, but back to you question i originally had them in with the angels and could see no problems at all, they basically keep themselves to themselves, such gorgeous fish, they stay mainly mid to bottom of the tank and with get a little territory and chase of other fish but they are basically harmless, they will also head but each other and this is general ram behaviour and again doesnt seem to cause them any harm. I moved my pair because of other fish such as pictus cats, and s.a.e. and tetras, which tend to be fast and can worry them, the angels didnt bother them at all. di
Always remember that you are unique; just like everyone else.
thanks, how do you tell them apart
Its not easy to see but the males generally have longer tail extensions and an elongated dorsal fin ray and a slightly different head shape, my new males is a bit bigger that either of the two females when they are together its easy to see but a new one on its own would be hard to tell. di
pot luck then
Should be fine in your tank mate.
The first two spines of the dorsal fin are longer on the male and they show more color and grow larger. Females tend to be plumper and get a faint pink blush on their bellies at spawning time.
Lots of places sell them as a pair and I think thats the best way to keep them, males can be funny with each other (they are dwarf cichlids after all).

lol no, not pot luck at all! Fishy and blue Dave are right and the difference is very clear, basically the male is much more flamboyant. If you're struggling to see the difference don't worry, the staff at your LFS should be enormously helpful. When I first got mine I really couldn't see the difference but within a week or two wondered how I'd ever missed it! I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet but you do need to be careful with your water condition with Rams; even the Bolivian Rams, which are generally considered more hardy than other varieties, are very sensitive to nitrates etc so you need to make sure you're staying on top of your water changes and the tank's not overstocked. But they are very very reqarding fish IMO - not just for their beauty (and they really are beautiful) but for their character too - my male would come to the glass and watch me - not rushing to the surface waiting for food but actually sitting there staring at me!!! If I moved my head, he'd follow. If me and my mate both sat there hed watch me - if we swapped places he would, again, followm me! I'm convinced they watch you as much as you watch them and I'm equally convinced they recognise you over others. People will probably suggest I'm barking but hey ho, I'm sticking to my guns...
thanks all
