hi all
im having a few issues with cotton wool like fungus,on two dwarf gouramis,i have dosed the tank once with anti fungus and finrot medication, but it seems to be spreading to other fish.
any advice would be greatly recieved.
many thanks,
lee
Fungus and finrot are caused by the same bacteria so treatment is the same, its usually caused by poor water quality so check you are not over growded and have enough filtration otherwise these problems with keep re-occuring. This bacteria can be hard to get rid off and you should treat for 10 days if however that doesnt kill the bacteria it could be this new strain that seem resistant to some medication and you might have to resort to meth blue and salt. Now dont go adding meth blue to your tank without being aware that this will kill off all the bacteria in your filter (thats what its does, kill ALL bacteria good and bad). It then means you have to cycle your tank again and your fish will get ill from ammonia and nitrite poisening, the best way is to either set up and small hospital tank or give them a bath in the solution twice a day.
I would still use some esha 2000 or interpet med as the whole tank needs treating and maybe bath the worst cases if it appears to be spreading. Check your water perameters for any under lying causes as stessed fish seem suceptable to these infections. di
hi,
many thanks for the info di,just re dosed so i will wait another 7 days to see if any change.
best,
Give the affected fish a salt bath - if it's fungus this will definitely sort it out.
