Don't really want to go the CO2 route, not with cylinders or yeast etc. I will use Easy Carbo. What plants are suited to this type of set-up? I guess plants did survive and grow prior to extra CO2 being pumped in, (am I being a Luddite?).
Would appreciate any suggestions.
more important is what lighting you have.
i use seachem excel which is the same type of thing as easy carbo and i am having good results.
It's a 21 gallon tank - 2- 30" T8 tubes - total of 50W
decent lighting, reflectors wil help
easycarbo / excel melt some plants such as vals, cabomba etc
i think crypts, swords etc are ok with it though

Is there a way of calculating how much light you need?

sounds like you will be ok with most things teacherman, just avoid the tricky exotic stuff.
Thanks imustbedreamin - help appreciated
I to have just started with easy carbo, plan on doing DIY CO2 some point in the near future but for now was the easier choice. Still trying to decide how much and how often to dose the tank though.

Someone said earlier Easy Carbo will damage some plants such as Vallis and Cobomba, although a lot of people use it
I have vallis so we shall see!

Depends on what plants you want to keep and whether you want to muck about with CO2. With lighitng levels of 2 WPG you should be able to grow most things except the really light loving plants. At 2 WPG you might want to consider CO2 but not essential. You start going above 2WPG and you are likely to need CO2. If you haven't got 2 WPG just choose plants that need low/medium light levels.
