Hi and welcome tiphat

I have just got myself a Rio 180 second hand, have just finished cycling it and have moved all my fish from my 60L.

This is a great site and some very knowledgable folks here.

Hi and welcome.

At least your come to do some research before getting the fish which is always a great idea.

When you first set up a tank you cant just add water, you need to to get some good bacteria growing in the filter first, as these remove toxins produced by the fish. If you dont allow for this to happen the fish will poisson their self.

What you need to test for is ammonia, nitrite and nitrates.

using starter cultures from shops you can get this all going with in 14 days or so.

Then when it come's to buying fish only add 4-5 small fish or 1-2 medium size fish at a time, give it 7-10 days then add some more.

you dont say where you are, someone who comes on here might have one or know of one thats going, ive looked on ebay and again it needs to be near you as it cant be posted, looks like you could net one for under a tenner on there, if its very close ask if you can view it before you buy, that way you can make sure its ok, if its up and running all the better, if its empty ask them to fill it with water, and make sure it doesnt leak.  Some very good advice from alan, (helter) he know his stuff and shows fish, there are a lot of very knowledgable people on here so dont be afraid to ask questions, we were all beginners once and some of us leant the hard way. di

the second tank if you are planning a freshwater tank then the other stuff isnt worth buying, and the tank alone with the pump, lights etc, will be all you need, Im not sure its thats good a bargain, what about offering £75, di
