hi, i was wondering what plants there are out there for attaching to driftwood other than anubis, moss or java fern? im looking for some different plants for my nano tank, ive seen a few things on ebay, but most seem to have doubt as to whether they are true aquatic plants or terrestrial, any suggestions guys?

They way I understand it a lot of aquariums plants are marginal, that is either spend the rainy season submerged or grow on rocks near things like waterfalls and so are partially submerged.

Go to www.tropica.com, they have a section on growing plants on wood. They are kind of an encylopedia but they also sell plants via dealers, they plants they have often say whether they can be grown on wood or not. Well worth a look and the search facility is very useful.

I'm afraid I'm new at the planted scene so can't be more specific than that. Smile

Riccia will grow on wood, but you need to net it down to start with. There is a wide variety of mosses and ferns as well, not just your bog standard java. Same with anubias, lots of different varieites.

Lots of plants can be tied to wood but they will always send out runners to either find the substrate or to take nutrients out of the water column, i've tried a whole buch of stem plants (i.e. limnophilia) but they end up just being messy - with lots of white runners. There isn't much else that will stay on or look nice on the wood!

Hemianthus callitrichoides is supposed to grow on wood but i've never tried it.

Surprise You'd be there all day tying that on! It was bad enough trying to get the stuff to stay in the gravel lol
