Is it just me or is there something very wrong with these things >:( >:(

I started using a new one a couple of weeks ago as I have written before in other threads.
I had thought it wasn't working properly as the temp of the water never matched the set temp on the heater.
Then it seemed like it wasn't working at all so I contacted the website I bought it from and they are happy to replace it .
Long story, but I also had to order another one from another site I use as the other site was out of stock.

When I removed the 'old' one it felt quite hot whereas beofre when I have checked it it felt cold.
Even when it had been set to 32c, hence why I thought it wasn't working at all :-\

I put the new one in yesterday around 2pm and set it to 30c hoping it would soon heat up like the original one that came with the tank :)
5 hours later, it had only increased by 2 degrees ???

I have also bought a new ETI Digi thermometer as the one we have is about 6 years old now and I thought a new one should give a more accurate reading. It reads a degree lower than the old one which doesn't concern me that much as I suspected the old one was reading a degree higher when compared to other thermometers I checked with.

So, this heater , like the first one, is not reaching the temp it is set to. The highest it reached when set at 30 was 27.5.
I turned it down to around 27 overnight incase the temp did go any higher.
I've just been downstairs and the temp was 24.7 :slap:

What is going on? >:(
Are these heaters just rubbish compared to the original old Juwel heater I had which never let me down until it's latter days :-\
Why do they not reach the set temp?
If I ever need to increse the temp to 30 it looks like I won't be able to :-\

I have contacted Juwel and hope they will soon reply.

Anyone else noticed this problem with these new heaters?
I would be very interested to know thanks O0

Silly question time:

Is you room particulary well heated?

From the literature I got with my Juwel set-up (2½ yrs. ago, now, so I'm watching your thread for inspiration - I'm "due" to replace my heater  :buck2Smile it states that they "interact" (paraphrase) with the ambient temp. of the environment; warmer room = less temp. from the heater.

Does this apply to you? ???

Thanks for that info Nick Smile
I'm glad it's not just me ! O0
Our tnak is a vision 180 with a 200 watt heater.
I was even wondering if I should try a 300 watt
Our original had no problem getting above 30 in a short period of time.
This blooming thing , as I already said, takes hours and hours to get up a few degrees.

Mike....is it the old type heater you have with no number dial? Smile
I'm not sure just how long these new heaters have been out :-\
There 's no info with them saying anything about interacting with the ambient temp of the room.
I would have thought something set to say 26 would heat the water to 26 and keep it at 26 :Smile
Unless of course the room was very warm like during the summer or high central heating.
Anyway, the heating was on and quite warm when I put the heater in set at 30 and it took hours to rise only 2 degrees :-\

Why when the temp was set at 27 overnight, it dropped to 24.7? :-\
The central heating was off but the heater should have kept the water temp up on it's own.
Rubbish by the looks of it >Sad
The old one was very reliable.

remember its ok to have a temp drop overnight (not too much) as this is what happens in nature and that your tank lights can warm the water a little...i see a temp variation of 2 degrees on my vision 180 lights on/off

thats not strictly true about water temp droppin at night in large bodies of water, the temp usually stays stable, the only real changes are seasonal e.g. meltwater, rainy season. you should try the new rena heaters there awsome, we have them in my shop and there so safe, they dont break when you take them out of water for a while and they warn you if they are out of the water to long. we have also been having trouble with the juwel heaters, they wont go above 28 and the temp never stays constant so we switched them to rena's and they are awesome Smile

POTM July 3rd
I like mel, i have a new one with no probs.

However, the temp marked on the heater isn't necessarily the temp that it will keep the water (due to the interaction with ambient temp that mike mentioned) - this is perhaps why the old ones didn't have numbers?

Nick, is your hallway tank on an outside wall rather than a party wall.

Yes I have the "old type".  :Smile

I am "looking" to replace (although still working great  O0) with a 200w as mine is on Full and the Temp is 25/26 C but my front room is a cold one.

Do any other makes fit the Juwel housing? They must be able to stand upright - as opposed to being on a slant in the open tank.

perhaps me and lilac are just unlucky

oh yes you stick with me Nick and the bad luck will come pouring in :Smile :crazy2:
If it can go wrong 9 times out of 10 it will go wrong for me Sad :slap:

The temp never used to drop like that overnight with the old heater though Sad
It was only turned about half way round if that and attained 26c.
This one needs to be turned nearly all the way round.
I will write here if Juwel get back to me.

I've got the same problem with a new Vision 180. Heater set to 28, max temp so far is 25 and that was when I had the heating on all day on Saturday. Standard temp is 24 on a comfortable air temp day.

I wondered if it was that the heater fits inside the box unit in the corner and there wasn't enough of a flow over the heater... Maybe not.

Lilac you're not the only one with bad luck with electronic/electrical equip. I have a Rena Filstar IV in another tank. Less than 3 months old and it keeps packing up..... then my timer switch for the tank lighting went fritzy this morning.  :slap:

I can empathise with you deflep O0
I only have to look at some electrical stuff and it goes wrong :slap:
One day I managed to kill three things around the house and fuse the lights twice and all I did was switch them on :-\
I think I have a lot of static electricity within me or something :Smile

The place I got the first heater from are still happy to replace it Smile
They have told me ''We have not had a huge amount of
problems with the Juwel heaters but have had a couple come back to us  in the recent months''.
So I think it's fairly conclusive that these heaters have issues O0
No word from Juwel yet.
i think I will email them again Smile

Funny you should mention static. I'm ALWAYS getting shocks from cars and railings. :o

I might take the heater back and see if I can get a replacement.
