I have a black pacu which has outgrown the tank - a common problem I've been told. I took him on when he was small & didn't realise what he was or how big he would grow. He's now about 12" long in a 3' x 12" tank. Not good I know but I don't know what to do! He's on his own as the other fish have gradually died. I can't get him a friend as the tank isn't big enough and the ph keeps crashing despite frequent water changes. He's now stressed & I don't know what else to do. I've tried to find him a new home but have not had any luck. I'm not really an fish expert and have only had small fish before. I haven't got room for a bigger tank & wouldn't have a clue how to get him out of the one he's in anyway. Help!

hmm, this is a tough one. Are there any aquariums located near to you? They may be able to take him off your hands? Or is there any good fish shops near you who can take him?

Thanks for the suggestion - I've posted a note on their forum so I'll see if anyone responds

I've now put an ad on aquarist classifieds and also left my details with some local aquatic shops so hopefully he'll soon have some new friends

Thanks for your help, I'll keep you posted with the outcome

Hi again - good news.  I had an email from someone offering Big fish a new home last weekend - he has a 7x3x4 tank with RTC/TSN cross catfish, sailfin plec and a niger catfish. He's also a member of Monster Fish keepers & seems to know what he's talking about. I've also had a call from a zoo saying that they would take him but I need to call them to have a chat which I'll do today. I'm still doing mini water changes but when I took some tank water to my local aquatic shop last weekend they said it was spot on. Big fish certainly seems happier than he was - I'm feeding him less so he's making less mess in the tank as well but although things have settled down I know I can't keep him & feel happier knowing he has a nice new home to go to. Just hope he gets on with his new fishy friends.  My determination seems to have paid off - I spent over 3 hours last weekend, phoning everywhere I could think of that may be able to help, some seemed keen until I mention the word 'pacu' and I was beginning to despair but now I've got 2 options so hopefully there's a light at the end of the tunnel now.
