    Goldfish with a bad eye

One of my lionhead's eyes looks swollen and bloodied (I reckon he bashed it on something) but he seems absolutely fine otherwise.  Has anyone else known this and did the eye recover?

It sounds as though it could be pop eye,

A symptom of a bacterial disease, abscess, eye injury, or over aereated water. It is where one or both eyes protrude from the eye socket. If popeye is left untreated the eye may bulge out so far that it can pop out of the socket resulting in the loss of the eye.  Might be an idea to check your water quality, and i think interpet do a med for it. di

Always remember that you are unique; just like everyone else.

I tested the water a couple of days ago and it was OK.  Plus it doesn't look like the case of pop eye I saw before.  I'm going to do a water change tomorrow and give the fish some tonic.  He seems perfectly happy and is feeding normally.

Any chance of a pic of the effected fish?

The LFS have given me some myxatin for him which is supposed to be very effective so fingers crossed.

I wouldn't like to say, is there any thing he could've physically damaged his self on?

Well there's the tank furniture or he could even have jumped up and caught it on the light.

It could possbibly be that then. I suggest you have a feel around the tank and see if there's any corners that he could've caught himself on. Lots of things can cause pop-eye, but, not lots of things cause the pop eye with the heamorrhaging or bruising as you can see in your fish.

Poor little things on his way out I reckon.  Losing the eye didn't seem to bother him but it would seem that infection got in through the socket despite the treatment.
