Just realised that the boys sand castle photo's are from different days.Well they did build three or four while we were there!
WOW!! It looks amazing out there, I can't beleive how close you got to the elephants, I'm very very jealous!
Geeeee I love the elephants - so so cute
The elephants are wicked - our hotel has a kind of sanctuary i spose, the elephants we went on were rescued working elephants and the little one was their kid (called lucky). The keepers used to bring the smaller elephants through the hotel every day for the guests to pet/take photos etc and then take them for a swim in the sea to cool down. The younger elephants are different to the ones that were here when we came last time - i couldn't quite get to the bottom of why as the keepers didn't speak much english (and my Thai amounts to three words, one of which is Singha!!) but i think one of them was sent back to the forest up north - don't know if this meant it was realeased back to the wild or not though. Would be quite difficult to release them back to the wild i would have thought because they are so used to people.
Wow what fabulous pics Dave. What is your camera again? The little elephants are so cute
Looks like Emily took it all in well LOL she is coming along nicely
The camera is a panasonic Lumix DMC - FZ18, in my opinion it is the best digital non SLR camera going. I basically chose it cause it was less hassle than an SLR and i know nothing about photography! Not a bad price either - was recommended to me by a work mate who does know about photography (he has a number of camera's including this one and a digital SLR with what appears to be a million different lenses!). It also had an 18X optical zoom at 8 mega pixels and 29.7X optical zoom at 3 megapixels with upto 115x digital zoom - i'll put some pics up from the holiday using the extreme zooms to show you the quality. Also looked at the web and it got some great reviews, like this one:http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2007/08/21/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-FZ18/p1To explain the sign - we got married here in November 2005 and planted a tree with a plaque to commerate the event. Part of the reason for going back to this hotel (apart from the fact that it's the best hotel i've ever stayed in) was the fact that we wanted to see our tree. Unfortunately they have re landscaped since and moved all the tree's in the process losing the plaques! Well, we weren't happy with that obvioulsy so I told the manager to find my tree! It took her 3 days of following the gardener around, but they did find where they moved 'em - couldn't guarentee which one was ours exactly though. So I told 'em that we wanted to plant another one. Had a word with the Gardener and told him to pick a type of tree and spot that would not be moved because we'd be back in a few years to check. So this time he chose a nice bush - as seen in the pic and we brought the plaque home with us as they couldn't guarentee that it wouldn't walk! Sorry about the long winded explanation! If people aren't bored yet I'll put some pics of the hotel and beach up - if you've had enough just let me know! Might even dig up the wedding pics if your bothered?!

wow those pics are great for digital zoom,a lot of the time you loose a lot of the clarity of the photo going into digital zoom but that seems to do just fine,i may even look up on that cam and see if i can pic up a bargain
as i said before - tis a great camera, i would thoroughly recommend it.
