    My disasterous day {almost}

     Hi well i thought i would put this on about my day to show it can happen to the best of uscrazy2

    Right i am having know end of probs with my four footer! the tank is a 48x12x18 tank filtered by two externals a eheim 2224 and a fluval 205! the tanks stocking is 8 B/Ns,3 geo jurapis,1 datnoide microlepis,1 rocket gar and a small tyre track eel {so hardly overstocked!}

    The problems = the externals are blocking up and need cleaning out weeklySurprise{my other externals only need cleaning every three months}

    So being clever Angel,i thought i'd put a 'spare'fluval 405 on the tank yeah that'll sort itYes so now the fun begins take of the eheim 2224 and pipe work{minimal water spiltSmile} put in the fluval 405 and pipework,get the syphon going waaahaaay pipe off oh dear Surprise,oh well only in me shed so thats ok! right thats sorted now to get the filter going Right better hold the pipe as its not quite long enough{yeah i know} turn it on and yep nothing coming out um why are my feet getting AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH pipe off again water being pumped out at an alarming rate my god its everywhere QUICK switch off pump switch of tap on the filter oh my gawd there's water everywhere! So get my cleanest towel{ok second cleanest towelAngel}and start moping it up! I now have one very wet carpet and one VERY wet towelZip it! {know wonder i've been banned from the house2funny}

    All going ok now and the fish are getting used to the extra currentCool!

    Footnote:- if this had been my only tank i would have been tempted to have given up fishkeeping-its been that bad!

    Hi thought about time i updated this! Tank no 1 = 3 retic rays,1aro,2 ompuk cats,8 angels,1 syd greshoffi{19 years old},1 syd unkown,1 stripped dora,1 plec,1 silver dat,1 pim and a soribum lima! Tank no2 = 6 auralis barbs,2 needle gars,1 molly,1 dat microlepis,1 trye track eel and 8 bristlenoses! Tank no 3 = 2 goldfish{on holiday}1 flag tail thingy{over twenty years old},4 silver dats,1 pim and a plec!

    Nasty!  Sounds similar to when Matthew opened the filter and flooded the lounge a few weeks ago.  It is surprising how quickly an external filter can siphon the water from a tank!!

    Take care,

    Wayne

    Tank1: 125L Tropical. 1 male betta, 4 scissortail rasboras, 3 neon tetras, 4 glowlight danios, 1 candy stripe loach, 1 female bristlenose, 6 amano shrimp.Tank 2: 65L Nano reef. 6kg live rock, 96w T5 lighting, 3 x turbo snails, 5 x red-legged hermits, 1 x peppermint shrimp, 1 small pistol shrimp (hitch-hiker), two percula clowns, 1 neon goby, 1 sun coral, 1 clove coral & 1 tree coral

     Hi Wayne yes quite scarySurprisetrouble is i hadn't realised the four footer is higher than the six footer where the filter had come from - teach me to pull too hard {but feel the pipe came off a little to easy,such as in your case?}

    Oh dear, must be a day for externals and wet floors Embarrassed

    Done water change/filter clean on 1 tank, fine :)

    Waterchange and filter clean on 4footer, took lid off external, picked the body up to empty and rug slipped on laminate floor, about 1/3rd of the water flew out on the rug and laminate. Quick fly about with towels to mop up Super Angry

    3rd tank, waterchange and ext filter clean no probs Big Smile THEN I had the bright idea of setting the wet/dry 2229 filter on it as 2nd filter Confused

    Set it all up, , it filled then drained and stopped, didnt refil again so mucked about with pipe heights etc. Started it off again, didnt drain but it should and after afew mins i heard a kind of "pressure/strain" noise. I thought, hmm, ooohh don't sound right then i noticed it was leaking from the float valve coupling in the middle Surprise PANIC AGAIN !!!!!!! Run about with another towl mopping up and i tried to nip the coupling but more water came out so switched off and still leaked!!!!!! tickedoff I closed the valves (so i thought) and clicked the release and took pipe head out, forgot i'd just turned 1 tap off, not both, more water on floor Super Angry

    I've just dumped the filter in the bath and not even touching it until tomorrow or I might just smash it!! going to have to pop into the barbers below in the morning to see if any water has went through the ceiling Embarrassed

    I want a ground floor flat with concrete floors lol

     All been there if it's any consolation lads!

    I once came home to about 200 litres of a 500 litre tank slowly soaking into my carpet where a pipe had come away from the spray bar fitting!!! Missus was not happy - soloution - glue the pipe to the fittings - you can always buy another lenght of pipe and fitting (much cheaper than a new carpet)!!!

     Yes indeed we have all been there

    Once or twice the filter hasn't primed properly and I have had disconnect the tubing to get rid of airlocks or use a syphon thing to start the water off down the tubes. If I'm not quick enough getting the tubes back on amidst the fast flow..... soaked carpet, soaked me, soaked Nick, wet wall . How fast and far a bit of water can go round.

    Bet your mum was well pleased with you James

    Hope Mr Sweeney Todd's shop wasn't wet Richy. Or was it a close shave. Sorry I'll get me coatZip it!

     Stingrays,

    I just use normal super glue (locktite to be precise) push the tube onto the fitting and then run a small bead around where the tube meets the fitting - this way it's just enough to hold it without coming into contact with the water. When it's dry ( i give it 24 hours) then you can use it.

    People will probably go on about using aquarium safe stuff etc - but i've had no probs.

    Re: My disasterous day {almost}

    I've used superglue in a reef before, glued some fragged sea fans onto live rock and it was fine Smile I think it was a certain kind though, possibly from maplins.

     superglue gel is the one.

    ordinary super glue leaches into corals and poisons the nervous system.

    stupid is as stupid does

    Dave, it was applied outside the tank then after a few mins to dry placed into the tank Smile Perfectly fine mate Smile
