    "start rant"

    Hi All,

    Was thinking about having a new porch built so went round to the neighbours house to tell them what we had planned and see if they minded what we were planning to have.

    We discussed that we were going to have the porch built bigger and thinking of having a canopy going the full length of the front of the house and a pillar to hold the canopy up.

    We basically wanted their views on the idea as it would be visible out of their living room window (they said that they didnt mind and to go ahead with it!)

    After having all the footings done, the new porch built and the pillar half built the neigbour decides that he is not happy with the idea of the canopy / post as he can see it out of his window!  Are some people just muppets or what! Angry

    This is after seeing them about it, paying for the bricks, paying for the labour to build the thing!

    We were really excited about it as this is our first house and we saved for ages for it, and the neighbours have really took the shine off it now!

    Apparently now they dont mind the idea??????

    Do so some people just like complaining for the fun of it? I wouldnt mind if we hadn't spoke to them about it.

    Our drive is half the neighbours. We both want a new paved one, and agreed to go ahead with it. I went to a lot of trouble last year getting quotes etc. Then they said they had other things to finish first. They have had building work going on for the past 5 years.

    We get on really well with them, but it did put a damper on things when they said one thing then another. It hasn't been mentioned so far this year and we both have things going on at the moment.

    There will always be disputes with neighbours about one thing or another. But it can be very annoying, upsetting and inconvenient when it happens to you can't itSad

    I forgot to mention that they also said that our building work would De-value their house Hmm Apparently us having a new porch is bringing house prices down all over the country 2funny. I honestly think that there is a little jealousy on there part (well thats how it appears) which is quite sad really(they have wanted a porch since they moved in). One of the main reasons we got it done so fast was that there was a leak on the roof and the old porch really was the smallest porch in the world, you had to walk in sideways to get through the door so getting the shopping in has been a bit of a nightmare.

    The next project is having a new driveway but that maybe a while as we need to save up again.

    Have you got planning permission ste?

    If you have then theres nowt they can do about it!

    If not - is it exempt?

    Hi Dave,

               No we have'nt got planning permission as the porch is less than 3 metres squared.

    They have now appogised and said that they were having a bad day and that it does'nt block any light from there house.Tongue Tied

    Our neighbours have had so much done and so much bad luck with dodgy builders, they ended up paying out more the get it put right than they did initallySad

     it wasnt the porch that would have blocked the light it was the canopy and the post to support the canopy.

    They must be feeling bad because they had a bbq today and invited us round for a burger! we never went but it was nice of them to offer.

     This is the new porch, we still have to have the fascia, guttering and new doors to be fitted.

    Hi Dave, yeah it does cut the light out a bit but we expected it to and we really need the extra space it gives us as we have VERY little in way of storage space.
