 Hi guys,

I was on a night shift last night (i'm a university campus security guard). It's freshers fortnight so it's all just got very busy after the long break without the students.

OK well last night was the first night club night in the students union. And at kick out time (0200hrs) a group of 6 students starting jumping into a raised pond near the union. they were chasing each other around it and jumping in and out. I managed to get them all out in the end (and controlled my anger).

The pond is 20ft square. It looks like its full of pea soup and most people believe that it is empty. But i go there most nights when i'm working, and throw the crusts off my sanwiches and sit back. After a while 1 or 2 murky shadows start to appear. Before too long theres quite a few large golden and blue orfs taking the bread off the top. And lots of really pretty motled goldfish getting the crums.

These idiots must have caused the fish so much stress let alone injuries. I'm going to have a look later, but at about 4 this morning there was no sign of anything.

Not really sure what else to say. Just venting!

they'll be fine i reckon, but they'll stay in hiding for a while, and only perseverence from you will regain their confidence,

............................bloody kids eh??. Angry

any chance you could talk to someone in authority and get permission to sort it out, you'll find that if it looks good and well looked after, people will have more respect for itHmm

it's my union flag and i want it back

I'm sure it would, and if they would be willing to pay i would love to do the work (sad but true).

What would be the best way to go about sorting it out? If i could put a plan together then go to them with it then it would bear alot more wieght then if i just say "sort it out". I will try and get a couple of photos and put them on this thread if it helps.

I'm sure if you show us what it looks like, we can help you plan how to make it look better, and on a budget too.. Wink

the best way of sorting it depends on the set up, if it's filtered then it should be relarively easy, if not, then refer to the thread about your parent's  pond lol 2funny

hmmm why not put a notice for any student interested in forming a work party to put right some mindless vandalism, if you stated times and dates then maybe the guilty parties might step forward and offer some help, just a thought, di

Lovely idea fishyfeet but the people that did this didn't seem to care at all. I think i will just have to try my best to get something done about it. I have so far worked out that if i appeal to the Students Union Campaining department, i may be able to get some sort of funding.

Bigd - Im afraid its another one of those unfiltered/no pump/how are they surviving type ponds. But they are breeding and other then when they are dodging students and stella cans, appear to be happy and healthy. Will get photos today. Have been on nights and my N95 camera phone takes crap photos at night.

Stingray! Hows it going matey. I need to fish somewhere new, PM me and give me a few dates when you are free. I've had a few ok barbel and alot of small carp. Still no double barbel. And still no bloomin tench!

Try the geography department, they may be able to help with funding or labour. Afterall, it is an environmental concern Smile

I'll try them also. From what i have been told i have to inform the campaigns dept and if they deem it to be of significant importance to the students then they will consider it. blahblahblah!

I have for the time being asked for barriers to be put in place on disco nights! I'm next on nights fri/sat/sun this week so will be keeping my eye on it!

Someone here recommended "Image Resizer" a while back - available here.  Great little programme, once installed just right-click on the file and choose resize...
