HI as you all may be aware i have a six footer with 5 datnoides quadrifasciatus in!
The dats have been very slow to settle and are still extremly shy and eat very little! my question is i am actualy asking your opinions Smile
right do i continue to set-up the tank and add more fish and hope the dats adapt?
Or do i pass them on to a friend who has expressed an interests in them?
My personal thoughts on the tank is that its very fustrating and i am losing interest in the tank{as it is!} all thoughts and opinions are welcome Smile

Once you start losing interest things usually go down hill from there mate, you get in the can't really be bothered with that tank mood.

If you think adding some new fish might help - then go for it. If not i would let your friend have them (as long as they know what they are getting) and use the tnak for something else.

Hi yes i go out and feed them{they are in a shed} do a quick head count and thats it Sad
my mate has kept dats before so he knows what he's getting-but he is baffled by mines behaviour?
If i got some new fish i feel the dats would simply hide and waste away :-[
ps good luck for tomorrow O0 O0

I'd let your mate have 'em then rather than possibly neglecting them in the future.

ps Cheers we will need it - your lot should get something the way bolton are playing (although they always used to be difficult to beat at home)

Well i haven't heard of many fishkeepers keeping the larger marines as they prefer the smaller more colourfull fish-not me the bigger the meaner the better :2funny:
but sharks are out-grow to big ???

you could get a huss (dog fish and smallest member of the shark family - i think) but you might be tempted to eat it with some chips! :uglystupid2: ;D

Hi James, what are you feeding the dats on? ~Have you tried live food? Maybe if they'd a guppy or two to chase it might bring them out of their shells a bit? It's possible they may have been fed in this way before you got them and never got used to 'static' food.

7 8 tanks (tropicals) Big Smile, and a pond.

Without understanding, knowledge is worthless

Hi Ferox i feed them on live river shrimp and worms, but they will only take a shrimp that literally swims very near to where they are hiding or a worm dropped on there head :uglystupid2:
I think my real problem is if i got some more fish in there they wouldn't get any food at all and soon starve to death :-\
but i am toying with the idea of putting them into a smaller tank see how it goes from there{on there own as they are now}its funny really as they have really coloured up and look great but they hide the whole time-so would they be ok in a smaller tank with loadsa hiding places??
I don't mind them taking up a four footer to themselves but will not keep a six footer looking empty just for them!! >Sad

this is one of the main reasons i have never wanted a fish house i find i takes you away from the rest of the family and you dont get to enjoy your fish as much as you do when your tank is in the living room

if all you have in the 6x2x2 are silver tigers and want to keep them why not make the tank brackish and add some monos and scats they are great fish you can also add some archers if you want
TIGERS ARE BETTER THAN DATS ONLY DEAD FISH GO WITH THE FLOW

Hi T1KARMANNN,that was my original plan{a brackish tank}but having kept archers, mono's and scats in the past i know just how greedy they are,so would the dats get enough food?-or dare i say company and competition would bring'em out? I guess there is only one way to find out? Go with my original plan and see how it proggress's Smile
At the moment they are looking much better and coloured right up and watch every move i make{quite eary :Smile}
So i think i'll put some minimul decor in and add some more fishes and see how it goes O0
