SHEDD AQUARIUM JNR

Hi well here goes! My diary. I have decided to do a diary of my fish house {a glorified shed 12 x 8!}
i currently have 3 tanks set-up 2 six footers and a 2 footer!
first 6 footer contains 3 stingrays,1 syd greshoffi,1 stripped dora, 1 pim,1 syd {species unknown?}6 little angels and 2 gouramis.
filteration = eheim 2080 and a fluval 405
lighting = twin 40 watt tubes 1 day glow + flora glow{i think?}
also a 30 watt t5 twin.
substrate sand decor bogwood and live plants {thanks fishyfeet}
2nd six footer =
fish 6 datnoides,1 redfin shark,1 syd ocelifer,3 x 3 lined barbs?? and a large angel also got a pearl gourami ariving tomorrow!
filteration = 4 air driven undergravel filters,jumbo juwel internal filter
lighting single 40 watt tube forgot what type!?
substrate,small gravel bogwood slate and rocks and plastic plants{soon to be replaced?}
2 footer = set-up today!
fish 6 bristlenoses {thanks kittiwake}
filteration air driven box filter!
light 20 watt tube type???

i have loads of plans and ideas so i will be updating this regulary! O0

hi fish tank cleaning day sunday,so the dats had a forty gallon water change and i =serviced the gem juwel filter,done a complete strip down{washing all the media in tank water O0}oh and if you own one of these filters my suggestion is to replace the bottom sponge with a sintered glass media such as eheims ehfisubstrate and to place extra filterwool on top of the top sponge! O0
stingrays just had a water change{40 gallons aswell} glad i'm not on a water meter :2funny:
the rays are getting much bolder and friendlier now and will follow me round the tank as i go round with the syphon tube and i'm sure they would take food from my hand now{is that a good idea though?}
the bristelnoses are settling into there new home and are doing very well!
went to the lfs and got some more bogwood for the dats tank £30 wow is really that expsensive :uglystupid2:

Hi big probs in the dats tank! :-[
they are obviously unhappy as they are nearly black and still not feeding {much}
i beleive the prob is the syd that is in the tank- he is not a bully but letting'em know who is boss - but not for much longer :knuppel2:
He will be moved out of the tank a.s.a.p! as will the other fish in there! then hopefully the dats will settle!

all the other fish taken to local fish shop,1 dat is looking very poorly and do not expect him to make it :-[
but on the bright side fishyfeet had sent me some plants that had arived today so now the tank is looking awsum!

Hi lost the dat :buck2:
it had some marks around its head? hard to tail whether it had been bullied{even bitten?}or it had tried to get into a gap to small for it! the marks did look like scraches?
tank looks um like a tea pot now :o
put loadsa bogwood in without soaking it! ;D
the remaining dats are settling down and starting to feed much more confidently now! O0
moved the large angel over to the ray tank,and a interesting battle broke out between the 6 little ones and the big1! quite funny actualy as the big girl was picking on 1 little one 3/4 of the others 'ganged' up on the big 1!
but all settled down now and swimming around together! 8)

Hi more excitment! Got home from work and had probs in the ancistrus tank-had an amonia spike  :o
so done a 200% water change {using water from the rays tank-so water well aged and ok for such a large water change-DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!}i also took out a filter and replaced it with an airdriven box filter filled with gravel from the dats tank and added a pollyfilter{chemical absorbing pad thingy!}
so now just got too keep an eye on how it goes from here!
well off to an airshow tomorrow{kemble}be nice to relax!

I had a great day at the airshow O0
the ancistrus tank looking much better tonight but still done a 20% water change{with tap water!}just to be sure!
the dats tank had a 25% water change and nice to see them settling down now but still not coloured up yet??

Hi well been a quiet week this week-the only highlight was getting bite by one of the dats! i was putting a worm in by hand watching the one in the bottom of the wood pile and didn't spot 1 much higher up and bang the blighter came out missed the worm and got me finger OUCH :o know damage done but finger was 'tingly' for a while afterwoods!
The dats still not really settled yet-still quite dark in color,but eating ok? all the other fish are doing well,and the rays are definatly growing now!

Hi been a busy weekend fish tank cleaning! all 3 tanks done! Cleaned out the eheim 2080- quite an easy job but how are you meant to lift it! with the top removed i still couldn't lift it! :idiot2: and i'm know weakling ;D
but job done easily enough and started first time
Bought some mollies for the dats tank! they looked big in the shop got them home and WOW they looked tiney in there :o,so rather than them end up as dat food,i put them in with the bristlenoses to grow on :
but that tank looking overstocked now!
done a water test tonight{first in ages's!}
and was well surprised
rays =     am = 0       dats =  am = 0
         nitrite = 0               nitrite = 0
        nitrate = <25mg       nitrate =<10mg
             ph = 8+                ph = 8 +
got my eye on some fishes up the lfs so might get some for my birthday!{tomorrow}

Hi been a quiet week or so! done a water change on the dats tank tonight and added a little salt{marine grade}They are still looking unhappy and very reluctant to venture out from hiding!
I put a post on asking for advice and would like to say thanks to everyone who answered and for all your idea's and thoughts O0
also made me appreciate how good a site this is and how friendly everyone is O0
the rays are growing well now and are looking really happy : also the bristlenoses are doing well and are growing and the mollies are hand tame
i will put some foto's on soon but me, my camera and my laptop are not agreeing at the mo  :tickedoff:

had a quiet sunday but set up spare four footer,to put the bristlenoses and mollies in for the time being.The tank is still maturing despite using alot of 'old' tank water and some old media :o
cleaned all 3 tanks out today.The dats tank had a 'proper' clean out and found quite alot of old food in there so not so sure they are feeding as well as i had hoped?i lost a pearl gourami today{not unexpected-its been off color for awhile now} :-[
the rays are doing really well and i am surprised by there almost constantly hunting for food :o
aparently an active ray = a happy ray! ;D
my wish list for my lfs is getting longer! got me eye on a soribum lima,clown knife,tiger knife and some other fish that they are not sure what they are,so they said they will try and find out more for me O0
camera pc and laptop still not agreeing but getting close to an anwser{anyone want a cheap camera :2funny:}

Hi everyone. The plane forum i have joined is run by the biggest load of self conceited people i have ever known! :angryfire:
Right thats out of the way! Today cleaned ot the fishes and lost the pearl gourami {again}.Thought it had died but it had not,but it was in a bad way- swimming on its side and looking very unhappy so put the poor thing out of its misery :-\
I also took T1KARMANNS advice and removed all the decor out of the dats tank{that was alot of bogwood :o}and amazingly they look more their natural colour already :o but still not happy
the 4 footer still maturing-nitrites were of the scale :o :o
so must be nearly there now!
Oh and i've cracked the camera,pc problem-just got to take some decent foto's now ;D

so moved the bristlenoses and mollys in and also me one eyed fish! he was rasping away at me rays :angryfire:
not a good idea while i was watching!The fish hasn't caused any damage but thought it prudent to move it before it had O0
the bristlenoses are awsum little devils they are so cute and fast little blighters when trying to catch'em :o
i bought 2 new fish today-ompox catfish{yes me know idea what they are either :2funny:}but apperantly they grow to 12 inches and are peacefull we shall see!
they looked big in the shop but when i put them in the tank they looked tiney and my 'small' angels tried to eat'em
but they were ok O0
and looked great and were eating striaght away!
