Hia, I have a breeding pair of oscars and the female doesn't seem to want to drop her eggs. Someone told me if i put them in my 6ft she will lay straight away. At the moment they are in a 4x18x18". The six foot is 6x2'x18" Any opinions?
She has laid eggs before in a custom tank 53x18x12", I'm wondering if change in lengh has put her off.
Cheers

It won't harm her to hold on to her eggs, she should just reabsorb them. To be honest, i don't think the 4' tank is big enough for a pair of oscars, and i would be tempted to put them in the 6', just to see how they got on.

Thank god didn't know she would reabsorb them, thought she might do something similar to exploding!

Have now put the pair of them in the 6ft tank and she seems happier no eggs again yet? Maybe the water needs to settle a bit?

I think its the stress from moving about, but she should get eggs again soon Smile

Shes got plenty of eggs in her, she's just not dropping them. Like you say its probably stress from being moved, the've gone from 4ft to custom built 53" to 6ft x 2ft x 18" in a short period of time compared to other fish as they grow so bloomin' fast!
I love them to bits, though I'm hoping the next electric bill isn't mega high!

a 4x18x18 is plenty for a pair of oscars.

i have seen a pair lay non stop in a 3x12x15

they are fussy beasts and dont take too kindly to being messed about.
stupid is as stupid does
